International Webinar on Content Sharing of IWA World Water Congress in Copenhagen (VI)

The 6th webinar in a series for Content Sharing from the 2022 IWA World Water Congress in Copenhagen was held on November 22, 2022. The webinar series is jointly hosted by the International Forum of Water Sustainability (IFWS) and Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT). Prof. Enrique Cabrera Rochera, Senior Vice President of IWA and Professor at Universitat Politècnica de València, and Mr. Perry Rivera, IWA Board Member, COO of New Business Operations, and Managing Director of Manila Water Company were invited to discuss with the Chinese attendees of the webinar. The webinar was moderated by A/P. Zhangwei He, School of Environmental and Municipal Engineering, XAUAT. Also, over 8000 researchers, technologists, and students joined the webinar.

A/P. Zhangwei He first extended a warm welcome to all the experts from home and abroad who participated in the webinar. He also explained that the webinar includes three sections: two invited oral presentations by Prof. Enrique Cabrera Rochera and Mr. Perry Rivera, and a video share of the Copenhagen IWA World Water Congress Keynote and Plenary Panel Discussions-4, followed by Questions & Discussion.

Firstly, Prof. Enrique Cabrera Rochera gave some interesting insights on “Creating a Digital Roadmap.” From his presentation, we can know more about how to create a digital roadmap. Then, Mr. Perry Rivera talked about his experiences in the Practice of Digital Water at Manila Water. His presentation gave important information on how to realize digital water, including two digital case studies: a) the integration process of IT and Operations Technology and b) Saudi’s AMR plan through its National Water Company.

Subsequently, the webinar shared a video of the fourth keynote report of the Copenhagen IWA World Water Congress entitled “Digital Water Unpacked” by Mr Oliver Grievson, Chair of the IWA Digital Programme and Technical Lead at Z-Tech Control Systems, and Prof. Enrique Cabrera Rochera, Senior Vice President of IWA and Professor at Universitat Politècnica de València. Their report demonstrated that digital water is about the application of digital transformation, and the key issue is associated with data, including how to enrich, analyze, utilize and maintain the data. After the keynote report, a panel discussion was carried out among Ms. Corinne Cheeseman, CEO of the Australian Water Association, Australia, Ms. Pernille Ingildsen, Head of Projects of Hillerod Utility, Denmark, Mr Ramón Dolz Mollác, CEO of Baseform – Spain & Latin America, Spain, and Mr H.P. Nanda, Executive Vice President & Divisional CEO of Water Utility of Grundfos, USA. They expressed their opinions on how to develop digital water.

Prof. Wang Xiaochang, Prof. Enrique Cabrera Rochera, Mr. Perry Rivera, and Prof. Zhihua Li, vice dean of the School of Environment and Municipal Engineering, XAUAT also joined the discussion to express their perspectives on “Digital Water.” Overall, this webinar provides more information on how to create a digital roadmap.
