International Webinar on Content Sharing of IWA World Water Congress in Copenhagen (VII)

The 7th webinar in a series for Content Sharing from the 2022 IWA World Water Congress in Copenhagen was held on November 25, 2022. The webinar series is jointly hosted by the International Forum of Water Sustainability (IFWS) and Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT). Dr. Inês Breda, secretary of the IWA young water professionals steering committee, Mr. Jacob Amengor, the moderator of the panel discussion and Chair of the IWA young water professionals steering committee, Dr. Isabela Espindola, the IWA Membership Engagement Officer and responsible person for young water professionals, Prof. Xiaochang Wang, IWA board member and distinguished fellow, Xiaoyuan Zhang, associate professor at Tsinghua University, and the newly elected chair of IWA China Chapter were invited to hold a discussion with the Chinese attendees of the webinar. This webinar was moderated by Prof. Qian Li, vice chair of IWA China Young Water Professionals (YWP). Also, over 8000 researchers, technologists, and students joined the webinar.

Prof. Qian Li first extended a warm welcome to all the experts participating in the webinar. She also explained that the webinar will share the main contents of the Copenhagen IWA World Water Congress Keynote and Plenary Panel Discussions-5, followed by a question and discussion session.

This webinar shared the fifth keynote report of the Copenhagen IWA World Water Congress entitled “Uniting Youth for Water” by Dr. Inês Breda, Product and Process Manager of Filtration Technology of Silhorko-Eurowater A/S, Denmark and Secretary of the IWA Young Water Professionals Steering Committee. Dr. Inês highlighted the importance of young water professionals’ participation in achieving the SDG goals and climate action. She expressed her hope for more opportunities for young water professionals in the water sector. After the keynote report, a panel discussion was held, chaired by Mr Jacob Amengor, Chair of the IWA Young Water Professionals community and Water Quality Assurance Supervisor, Ghana Water Company, Ghana. The panelists consisted of Ms. Emily Ryan, Past Chair of the IWA Young Water Professionals Steering Committee, Delft University of Technology, Netherlands, Ms. Andrea Montuori, Procurement Sustainability Manager of Xylem Inc., Switzerland, Mr Yang Villa, Member of the IWA Young Water Professionals Steering Committee and Head of the Isle Utilities, Philippines. They expressed their perspectives on how to promote the development of young water professionals in the water sector.

Prof. Xiaochang Wang, Prof. Qian Li, Dr. Inês Breda, Mr. Jacob Amengor, Dr. Isabela Espindola, and Prof. Xiaoyuan Zhang also joined the discussion to express their perspectives on “Uniting Youth for Water.” Through this webinar, we hope to inspire the development of young talents and promote the progress of the water industry.
